yin yoga

If you are tired and longing for energy renewal, or you are overwhelmed and your mind "does not stop", this type of yoga is just for you.

Yin yoga is based on the Taoist concept of yin and yang, opposite and complementary principles of nature.
Yin is a STABLE, motionless, hidden aspect… while yang is VARIABLE. moving, revealing aspect.

After the first yin yoga training, I knew it wouldn't be the last. The very next day, I felt changes, both physically and mentally. Until I started practicing yoga with Sanja and Leo, I had a variety of chronic (unexplained) pains. Already after a few times of Yin Yoga, my body and mind were transformed, but for the better. The mind is calmer, and the stress slowly disappeared from my body. With Sanja and Leo, every yoga session is something special. They helped us overcome our fears and feel better in our bodies. Their dedication is something priceless. What I can say for sure is that once you try yin yoga, you will always come back to it. Namaste! - ER

Characteristics of Yin Yoga

In the body we have relatively rigid connective tissues (tendons, ligaments, fascia), and this is the yin aspect of our body… While they are more mobile and  the more flexible part of our body muscles and blood - and that is the yang part.

Mostly our body needs 30 sec to 1 min to open up and we can move on. But this is not always the case. Listen to your body and

respect his requirements.

Observe your MIND and your BODY as 2 dancers, moving in full sync. Many yoga beginners, as well as more experienced ones, turn their yoga practice into a wrestling match, when the mind (will) is above the body, forcing it into positions where the body resists.

YOGA IS A DANCE, NOT A WRESTLING SWORD!

THE ESSENCE OF YINA IS FLEXIBILITY.
YANG refers to CHANGING THE WORLD; YIN's world ACCEPTS as it is. Neither is better than the other. Sometimes it is a time when it is necessary and even necessary to change the world, and sometimes it is necessary to let things unfold on their own. Part of yin practice is indulgence.

BE STILLLY LIKE A MOUNTAIN AND FLOW LIKE A GREAT RIVER. -LAO TSE

PRINCIPLES OF YIN YOGA

Yin yoga class usually consists of lower long passive positions (asanas) that are mainly oriented to the hips, pelvis, thighs, lower spine, shoulders. Positions last a little longer, from 1 min to 5 min… and some even longer. This is how we get to the yin parts of our body.

Find your limits

Once you have reached your limit in a position (asana), and you feel significant stretching, compression or twisting, there is no need to go further... Going further regardless of the feeling in the body - represents the EGO.

tranquility & relaxation

When you find your limit and settle into a comfortable position in the pose, aim for stillness. Tranquility is synonymous with yin. Finding stillness doesn't mean you can't adjust your body position as needed.

let time flow

Yin yoga is not based on quantity, but on quality. Do not expect a large number of yoga positions as in flow styles, the point is to spend a certain amount of time in each position with deep concentration. THE POWER OF YIN YOGA COMES EXACTLY FROM THE LENGTH OF POSITIONS. The longer we hold, the deeper we "plunge" into the position and ourselves. The deeper we go, the deeper we heal. The deeper we heal, the better we feel. This is where patience works to our advantage. Developing PATIENCE is an added bonus of yin practice. The more patience you have, the less frustrated, stressed and anxious you will be.

THE ESSENCE of yin is RENDERING.
YANG refers to CHANGING THE WORLD;
YIN ACCEPTS the world as it is.

BENEFITS OF YIN YOGA

student experiences

For me YIN is the beginning. Or in my case back to the beginning. It's like you start from the end of the road to learn and then the reward follows. Practicing yoga, I gained some "experience", but I didn't learn from books and manuals, I learned exclusively by listening to myself with the selfless support and example of Sanja and Leo. I often used to tell Sanja before class, and even more often I kept it to myself that I felt like someone had glued me with super glue. This feeling has nothing to do with being stuck, neither with a lack of energy nor with a medical diagnosis, it is that deep feeling of stiffness and lack of energy flow. I started practicing YIN after many years of practicing yoga, and if we will mold it into terminology, yang yoga. In the beginning, holding the YIN pose for a few minutes used to cause me anxiety, restlessness, and finally giving up. The most common questions in my head were "How much longer do I have to do this?", "Maybe if I fall asleep it will pass faster?", "But I don't have time for this..." Holding the pose for a few minutes is the closest to the description of the massage you give yourself. YIN forces us to slow down, to leave all questions and obligations behind, and thus leaves us a huge space for rest and renewal, to become patient and non-reactive towards ourselves. Most of us are conditioned by a very active rhythm of life ( yang ), which leaves very little time for cultivating a quiet, introspective side. Over time, it becomes physically, mentally and emotionally draining. As I delved deeper into YIN, surrender became a common theme, and letting go of the need to control the situation is a lesson for everyday life. The ability to adapt  to life's ups and downs and successfully manage change can reduce our predisposition to stress. With YIN, the breath slows down significantly and digestion is activated, toxins, stress and tension are eliminated, blood pressure and hormones are regulated, and the immune system is strengthened. In the end, YIN can also be seen as a preparation for meditation, but I think that meditation is not necessarily something you have to find, sometimes it finds you. When we create opportunities for "physical silence" in YINA practice, we also create perfect conditions for the brain to become clear - that's what we really are: YIN=ME=BEGINNING. Thank you Sanjo and Leo

I remember the impulse and desire I got for yin yoga (which I had never encountered before) when I found myself in your class. I was delighted by the yin positions: gentle, simple and 'passive', which are actually quite challenging. The softness, the feeling of greater presence and a deeper dimension of relaxation that follow me after class seem to be reflected in everything I do. That's why I'm happy to get back on the mat. Your hours are an injection of positivity. Just your appearance on the screen brings a smile to your face. I love your simple and authentic approach and selfless sharing of vast knowledge. Even if I have to miss a class, I don't worry because I know there is a recording of the class waiting for me. Practicing with you, my yoga enthusiasm only grows. You are not just yoga instructors, you are masters and the embodiment of the yoga lifestyle and it shows. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

What divine yoga has brought to my life is primarily a sense of groundedness, which I strengthened the most through kapalabhati breathing and regular sun salutations. For the first time in my life, I feel connected to my body, and it is interesting that I react to life changes and stress first from my stomach. It's as if the stomach sends information to the brain: "I'm stable, I'm strong, we'll solve it." Yin yoga taught me very practical skills that can be applied in everyday life. Through enduring the position, I learned how to ACCEPT the current state, tension, pain, how to let go and relax, how to be focused and how to be in the present moment. Thanks to yoga, I have been given so many practical tools to help me maintain balance between body, spirit and mind. Yoga definitely connected my work on myself and spiritual growth at the moment when it connected me with my body. It was unexpected for me. Good energy, commitment, humanity, security, discipline, knowledge and the essence of love is what characterizes Leo and Sanja and they are certainly an example of everything that yoga is! Thanks to them for selflessly sharing it. - IM

I was attracted to yoga for a long time, but it didn't happen that I started practicing it while I was in Zagreb, but only when I came to Šibenik with Sanja and Leo. Now I am extremely grateful that my introduction to yoga was with them, because as instructors they are irreplaceable and you can feel that they teach with love. In the beginning, Yin yoga attracted me less than Hatha yoga, but I soon realized that after the classes I was relaxed and that I felt more connected to my body, and over time that I became more patient, calm and focused on the moment. Sanja and Leo, thank you for your patience, dedication and selflessness with which you teach. - DB
