mantra yoga

In the cosmic order of creation, there was first vibration, SOUND. From the sound came akasha - time & space. Touch came from akasha, and air came from touch. The air had the properties of sound and touch. After that, the shape was created - VID. From the shape came fire. Fire had the properties of sound, touch and form. TASTE came out of the fire, and water came out of it. Finally, FRAGRANCE emerged from water, and from it the densest of all elements, earth, which has all 5 properties. When mantras are sung or uttered in the right way, then they become the core of pure finest vibration. Therefore, they have incredible power. That is why meditation on sound is recommended, because sound connects us directly to the source of infinite energy, while visualizations do so indirectly. - Swami Sivananda

Mantra yoga is in a sense the easiest and most effective of all forms of yoga if one is honest and fair. The word mantra comes from the root mana, which means to think and seek to protect. The mantra is a tool that frees the mind from all its negative concepts and emotions.  It can be said that the mantra is a means that "protects" the mind, it protects a person from distorted thoughts. Whenever you are emotionally fragile, hurt, upset or confused, when you lack strength or energy, repeating the mantra aloud or within yourself can completely change the state of mind, reshape its energy and mood. How is that possible?

The mantra is the core of sound and the embodiment of truth in the form of sound, while sound is the first form of energy.

Sound vibrations are of great importance for human well-being and are considered to be builders of health. Pronouncing vowels stimulates the vibration of the glands, and those cleanse the body system. Sound vibrations have the power to knock down a wall. Sound therapy restores health to the sick. Discovering the powerful effect of sound vibrations on the human body, yogis founded a special sound yoga and called it mantra-yoga. Mantras form certain combinations of words and are sung in a specific way, thus producing a healing effect on the human body system.

Tibetan Prayer Flags

The goal of mantra yoga is threefold:

Body health
Calmness of mind
Spirit development

Jaimini was the first in India to state that sound is imperishable and that it represents the matrix of all creation. The science of sound holds that even thought is sound. Yoga has developed a theory of static sound. Yoga says that there is no air space in the universe. Sound changes properties according to pitch, rhythm, volume, speed, frequency, harmony, intonation and pronunciation. In order to achieve the desired result, the sound energy must be organized and somewhat channeled. Mantra yoga is an attempt to organize and channel the energy of sound for a specific purpose. All ancient writers wrote about the power of sound. There are 4 types of sound; vaikhari, madhyama, pashyanti and para vak.  The first is audible and the other 3 are inaudible.

Para vak is an inaudible sound located in the muladhara where there is no articulation of sound. P ashyanti is an inaudible sound in the manipura chakra in which there is only a hint of articulation of sound. Madhyama or anahata nada is an inaudible sound in the anahata chakra that is just getting ready to become audible . The last in the series is vaikhari vak or audible sound, or speech, which is articulated in the throat or in the area of vishuddhi chakra.

Yoga distinguishes two types of sound; audible (agate) and inaudible (anahata). The power of inaudible sound is far greater than the power of audible sound. Modern science has discovered ultrasonic waves that produce inaudible sound. The human ear is unable to detect sound above 10,000 to 20,000 vibrations per second, and especially not ultrasonic waves whose frequency reaches over a million vibrations per second. The effect of these waves is manifold and unusual. The water they pass through glows as if it were fluorescent. In addition to inaudible sound, there is also invisible color. Yoga says, "In the realm of hidden forces, audible sound represents subjective color, and visible color represents inaudible sound." On the close connection between sound and color, yoga adds: “ Just as wire vibrates to produce an audible sound, so emotions in the human body create waves that lead to changes in a person’s psychic aura that manifest in the form of colors.

The idea contained in the action of mantra yoga is that certain spoken sounds produce changes - disorders in the akasha or ether, which, in accordance with their strength, transmits them to higher levels. It is reasonable, therefore, to believe that communication with higher levels will be more pronounced the stronger the change - the disorder. All that can be said is that there is a certain connection between sounds and changes in akashi. These sounds are known as BIJAKSHARE or MANTRA - SEEDS.  A person who is preoccupied with chanting the mantra slows down breathing, his eyes become bright, his gaze motionless, and his spirit joyful.  According to the mantrashastra, all bijaksharas originate from parawani, the sound that resides in maladhara. The power present in paravana is known as kundalini and is manifested in the form of sounds that make up 50 letters of the Sanskrit alphabet. Of the audible sounds, the most important is PRANAVA or promordial sound - OM. It is a universal sound that represents prana on a physical level. Being the first among sounds, it is believed to be a manifestation of every sound or mantra.

Each syllable is imbued with spiritual strength and powerful vibration. It is said that the mind is carried by the subtle energy of the breath, prana, which moves and purifies the subtle body channels - hope. When you chant the mantra, then you fill your breath and energy with the frequency and energy of the mantra, acting directly on the mind and on the subtle bodies.

the universe emerges from indestructible sound. It is the vibration of sound that projected this universe. Therefore the universe is controlled by sound. whoever controls that sound can control the universe as well.

The whole Universe and truth rest on sacrifice (jajna).  In the Bhagavat Gita, Krishna says, "Of the lambs, I am japa - the lamb." Lamb means sacrifice. There is Vidhi - the lamb which is ritual sacrifice; gifts of mercy or Dravya - lamb; pronounced wisdom or Jnana - lamb; and various austerities that serve the purpose of realizing the truth we know as Tapa - the lamb. Although there are many forms of lambs, why did Krishna give preference to japa lambs? According to Linga turkeys, the reason is that some damage is done to other lambs. Japa lamb is pure and simple, especially when the mantra is repeated mentally - because of the energy of the mantra itself.

In the Linga Purana, Shiva says to his wonderful wife Parvati:

"Devi, in all other yajnas a form of injury has been committed, whether through word, thought or deed,

but in japa jajni there is no such injury.

That is why she is the greatest of all. "

Demigods, elven demons, devils and ghosts cannot

to approach one who repeats the sacred mantra.

-

There are several ways to perform mantra yoga. The repetition of the mantra is called JAPA (japa). According to Agni Purani, the syllable "I" destroys the cycle of birth and death, and the syllable "Pa" destroys all sins. Therefore, what destroys all sins, stops the cycle of birth and death, and frees the soul from attachment is JAPA.  Japa destroys the accumulated storehouse of karma, it establishes happiness, frees from attachment and brings inner peace.

Oral japa (chanting the mantra aloud) is 10 times more valuable than ritual sacrifice. Umpamsu - japa (the mantra is silently repeated with moving lips) is 100 times better and mental japa is 1000 times better. There are two methods of mental jape. The first is mental repetition, and the second is breath meditation.

For beginners, mental japa is very difficult. The following is required: loud repetition is required to destroy sluggishness or laziness (there guna). Silent repetition is used to purify the passions (rajo guna); while one whose mind is calm or filled only with satva guna (purity) is ready for mental japa.

Many people use rosaries (japa mala) for their personal practice. The japa mala (rosary) is a series of prayer beads, usually made of 108 beads. Japa small are used, like a rosary, to recite, sing or mentally repeat the mantra. They are used so that the mind does not escape into an unconscious state, with the touch of a bead paired with sound helping.

There is another very appreciative way of using japa, and that is writing the mantra or LIKHITA JAPA . This is a fun and practical way to meditate. To repeat, the japa mantra refers to the repetition of a mantra verbally or mentally. In likhita japa we continuously chant the mantra. The benefits are great and powerful. It allows you to increase focus, concentration and peace in the easiest way. This method has no contraindications, so it can be performed by anyone. This exercise brings exceptional coordination of mind, spirit and body as we use at the same time fingers that contain many nerve endings, eyes that are a bridge between the outer and inner world, a mind that becomes focused on the mantra. This form of japa is a remarkable complement and can be a good and thorough preparation for people who practice or want to practice meditation, prayer, pranayama.

With the continuous practice of written japa, a person will gradually but definitely achieve complete concentration.

5 benefits of likhita jape

1. Dhaarana (understanding) - since all parts of your body like mind, tongue, hand and eyes are trying  concentrate on one thing
there is no possibility of becoming restless. With a clear goal and an understanding of what you are trying to do, your power to maintain concentration will increase and you will succeed in your plan.

2. Niyantran (control) - likhita japa helps to concentrate the mind which in turn helps to successfully complete any job.

3. Pragati (progress) - repeating the written mantra infuses inner spiritual strength.

4. Shanti (peace) - by concentrating on one topic, your mind stops wandering and you experience peace within yourself, even if you do not fulfill your desires.

5. Shakti (energy and strength) - the spiritual atmosphere is automatically created around the place where sadaqah - yogi  begins his Likhita japa exercise.

a few practical tips

  • before opting for any form of japa yoga, it would be advisable to learn the technique from a qualified yoga teacher, through a lesson, consultation or course ....

  • before practice it is desirable to take a shower ...

  • clean your home, especially the room where you chant. Create a cozy ambience, light a candle, incense stick, incense or oil. This will make it easier to focus the mind.

  • always use one of the meditative sitting positions, which will allow you to position your spine and head correctly;  if you suffer from sciatica, then the position of the diamond - vajrasana will be ideal ...

  • before a certain mantra it is always advisable to chant 3 x Om, and the frequent question is that how many times does it take to repeat a certain mantra? Guruji Nasimath says that 5 times is enough if we do it with faith and feeling. The mantra can be repeated 27, 54 or 108 times according to the yoga tradition. Another common question is how important the meaning of a mantra is. Both faith and meaning are important. There is a Tibetan story in which the mother of a yogi recites a mantra while cooking, and the mantra allows her to make a wonderful dish out of stone. Her son, who is in the yard, listens to her chanting and hears the wrong excuse, and enters the house and corrects her mother. The mother continued to chant in the right way, however, she lost the power of turning the stone into food. When she returned to her usual way of chanting, she regained her power. The story tells us that sometimes our faith and feeling are more important than the very meaning of the mantra. The power of the mantra lies in its sound.

  • for likhita japa, get a special note that will serve you only for that purpose, and keep it in a special place for you ....

divine mantra

OM
the healing sound of the Universe

There is a vibration that echoes incessantly through the cosmos. That vibration is the foundation of all matter and the basis of everything. As it pulsates in all objects of the universe, so it pulsates in us. That inner pulsation, which we can detect … From this inner pulsation, through matricashakti (power of sound), infinite letters and syllables arise which lead to the emergence of all inner and outer worlds. ”- Ksemaraja, Shiva Sutra Vimaršini

In Divine Hatha Yoga classes we dedicate a lot of time to the intonation of the sound of OM, there is no class that does not start and end with Om. Although people think that OM is a religious symbol (because certain religions use it), OM is of a universal character, OM belongs to everyone, just like air.

OM is the eternal vibration of nature and the universe that is the cause of everything we see as well as what we do not see, everything we hear, but also what we do not hear.

It is a time when science proves something that ancient yogis and sages have known for thousands of years. So why not learn a little more about this wonderful knowledge that is an integral part of our daily lives. Although we may not experience (hear) it, it does not mean that it does not exist. Just as we don’t see air, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. We just need to learn to calm the mind and senses, and only then does real communication with nature begin.

The magic of OM

It is not easy to summarize everything that could be said about OM without violating its true nature. For this purpose we quote Swami Sivananda…

Om is a sacred monosyllabic sound. Om is a mystical letter. The world rests in Om.
Om is a symbol of Brahman.
Om is a word of power. Om is the soul of all souls.
Om is infinity. Om is eternity. Om is immortality. Om is the source of everything.
Om is the cradle of all the Vedas.
Om is the foundation of all languages. All sounds come from Om.
There are all the facilities in Om. Om is the highest mantra.
Om is Soham. Om is Om Tat Sat.
Om is the light in your path.
Om is Nada Brahman. Hope is sound. Sound is a vibration. Om is the first vibration of sound. Sound is the first manifestation of the Absolute. We know nothing about the nature of the Absolute except that it exists. The texts tried to describe creation, and how it all came from the Absolute.
They say: Brahman is only one, without duality, and he thought, 'Let me be a multitude.' This caused a vibration, eventually producing a sound, and that sound was Om. Om from which all other manifestations arise. So that sound is the basis of the whole creation. Brahman is incomprehensible in his transcendental aspect. The closest we can get to it is sound.
All objects are marked with sounds, and all sounds merge in Omkar. All speeches and words end in one sound ‘Om’.

The buzzing of bees, the sweet melody of the nightingale, the seven tones in the music, the sound of mridanga and drums, the flute, the roar of a lion, the singing of lovers, the roar of horses, the hiss of a cobra, the cry of a child, the applause of the audience.

The sound of the Ganges flowing, the sound heard from a distant market, the sound of an engine, the sound of rain falling - it's all just 'Om'. Whatever you hear is always Om. Om is omnipresent like Akasha (one of the five elements - ether), just like Brahman.

Om is the foundation of all sounds. Om consists of three letters, A, U, M.

A, U, M cover the whole spectrum of sound vibrations.
When you say A, no part of your tongue or palate touches. When you say U, the sound comes from the very root to the end of the mouth. M is the last sound produced by closing the lips.

All languages originate from Om. The essence of the Vedas is Om. One who sings or repeats Om is actually repeating sacred books from all over the world. Om, Amen and Achamin are all one. They represent the truth or Brahman, His existence. The world exists in Om and dissolves in Om.
You live in Om. Inhale and exhale in Om. Be at peace with Om. Find refuge in Om. Repetition Om mentally or loudly. Draw strength from Om. Get inspiration from Om. Rely on Om. Think of Om. Meditate on Om.

Symbolism

According to the Vedas, OM is the first and supreme mantra. It has no name or form and is considered the creative force of the universal mind. In the scriptures it is called Hiranyagarbha - the cosmic egg. In the center of that egg is the starting point from which the sound propagates. Hope is a word that signifies sound, but here it refers to the end point of resonance. This point is the transcendental point where OM is in an unexpressed form. There are no vibrations, rhythms or waves in it; everything seems completely quiet and potential. It can be imagined as complete inactivity.

At the opposite poles of this universal egg are the forces known as time and space. Space is a positive energy force and time is a negative one. When you produce the OM mantra with your mouth or repeat it in your mind, these two psychic forces reach a state of polarity and tend to project towards the center of the nucleus. When unification occurs, an explosive force is created that acts throughout creation.  Therefore, the Om mantra represents a creative force, a center in which time and space unite and where infinity splits into a multitude of infinities.

OM SIMBOLIKA_edited.jpg

The OM mantra is written in a special way. OM consists of four parts (roundings) above which stands a crescent moon with bindu or dot. Bindu is the center or focal point of the OM mantra. Each curve represents infinity in its various aspects of time, space, objects, and transcendence. Therefore OM contains in itself other forces known as Prakriti or nature as well as spiritual forces.

These four parts are close to different states of consciousness;
1. awake,
2. dreaming,
3. deep sleep without dreams and
4. transcendental state

A - SATVA AND BRAHMAN

U - RAJAS I VISHNU

M - TAMAS I SHIVA

AUM (OM) is creation, maintenance and dissolution - all in one.

OM is also sometimes said to be a mula mantra (meaning “root” mantra) and is often used before or after another mantra (such as the Gayatri mantra) or the Shanti mantra). Singing OM at the beginning of meditation establishes an awareness of the vibration in your body, which your mind can then follow.
Yogis meditate on the symbol of OM in order to develop spiritual and mental strength within themselves. There are two manifestations of this energy: one is the fulfillment that belongs to the material plane, the other is the transcendence that belongs to the spiritual plane. OM is a very powerful mantra for the purpose of transcendence.

YOGA RESORT_-5_edited.jpg

benefits

According to the science of mantra, there are 4 types of sound waves - standing, echoing, oscillating and transcendental waves . Mantra OM produces all these waves. Since OM is a combination of A -U - M, the sound A produces standing waves, U - echoing, M oscillating. The fourth wave, which is transcendental and beyond the reach of the senses of hearing or speech, arises by meditating on Om in the heart center. When the external sensory world is transcended, we become aware of high-frequency waves that do not contain a period of rest. Ordinary waves contain a period of rest.

When you chant OM, that mantra begins and ends. The beginning and the end of the sound wave are periods of rest. But when you transcend the mind, you come to high sound frequencies that do not have a period of rest.

Vibration effect
AU (O) causes vibration of the entire thoracic skeleton, proving that vibrations are transmitted to the mass of air contained enclosed in the lungs, and that the sensitive alveolar membrane in contact with air also vibrates which stimulates pulmonary cells and allows better gas exchange.
Recent work by our Western physiologists also suggests that this vibration has a very noticeable effect on the endocrine glands, to which science is paying increasing attention.
Dr. Leser-Lasario has dedicated twenty-five years of his scientific work to the study of the effects of vibrations on the human body. His works have established with absolute scientific accuracy that the emission of vocals during exhalation causes vibratory organ massage.  These vibrations reach the deepest tissues and nerve cells, and blood circulation in the tissues and organs is enhanced. The endocrine glands are stimulated, as are the sympathetic and parasympathetic parts of the autonomic nervous system.
The muscles of the respiratory system both relax and strengthen. Breathing is intensified, and thus the amount of oxygen throughout the body.

Au (O) vibration is especially important for organs located in the chest and abdomen. This vibration creates electromagnetic waves that propagate throughout the body and increase the joy and dynamism of life. There is an improvement in concentration, removal of depression and inferiority complexes as well as the establishment of mental balance.

The belated MMMMMMMM sends vibration to the brain and nerves of the skull, thus stimulating dormant regions and latent abilities, awakening complete mental potential.

This sound locks and protects all 7 of our bodies / envelopes, cleanses all the chakras, raises energy and removes bad luck / karma.

“Sound itself has an effect on matter and consciousness: sound can stimulate, purify, provoke or attract attention. When we call someone’s name, establish communication and exchange, we invite the person to hang out with us. Similarly, when we chant different mantras, we establish spiritual connections.
Mantras are powerful and act like swords, cutting through the negative energy that surrounds us.
Different mantras have different purposes.

“Ma” comes from the Sanskrit word “Manas” and means mind, and “tra” from the word “Trayate” and means liberate.

When we rely on these vibrations, we will feel the difference: physically, mentally and spiritually because the mantra can penetrate different layers of impurities and resistance. ”
(from the book Spiritual Warrior II, Bhakti Tirtha Swami)

Yoga at Home

method of execution

How is the Om sound intoned correctly?

According to Gurudeva Shri Shivakumar Swamiji Nasimath, the Om-Omkara should be intoned in ascending order in order for the energy to rise.

1. As with breathing techniques, sitting in any meditative position, it is very important that the spine and head are upright.

2. Make a dhyana mudra (connect the tips of the thumb and forefinger).

3. Take a deep breath, and exhale, as much as you have a breath, intone OOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMM . M let you last longer. Always sing 3, 5, 7 or 11 times.

Preparatory exercise

While singing OMMMMMM, hold one palm on your chest and the other on your scalp. This way you will feel the vibration of the OOOOO sound on your chest and the MMMMM sound in your scalp. Sing this way at least 3 times.

MESSAGE OF GURUJI NASIMATH
PRAY - PREVENT - PROTECT

If we join forces, we can create positive vibrations of health, love and life. OM contains the power of creation. It is the vibrational root of the Universe, the energy that connects all - living and non-living in this creation. By chanting the sound of OM we connect our Atman (inner consciousness) with Paramatman (universal consciousness) and positively influence our environment. Everything that destroys lives and brings diseases can disappear from our mind, body, soul, homes, streets and world nom simple, deliberate and careful prayer and OMkar. Let’s stop all viruses, their spread and survival, with deliberate careful prayer and OMkar. Let's create a butterfly effect by starting from ourselves and spreading positive vibrations. Now is the ideal time for prayer. Support life, love and happiness!

ROYAL MANTRA 5 ELEMENTS

OM NAMAH SHIVAYA

I WORSHIP YOU SHIVA, MY INNER SELF.

It reads: Om Nama Shivaya

The mantra OM NAMAH SHIVAYA applies to the entire universe. It means a complete ultimate realization with its true and real meaning.

This mantra gives harmony and stability, intuitive knowledge, integration of mind and intellect, very great strength in spiritual practice and protection from negative karma, gives everything spiritual and material.  Because only the soul sees the soul, a strong 5 syllable mantra, O man, repeat this mantra, repeat it. She is the crown of God…  It would be impossible to explain the glory and greatness of Namah Shivaya, says the Shiva Purana, even if we have been trying for millions of years.

Anyone who has experienced this mantra can appreciate the claim of the sages who wanted to describe it as the shining sun or that deepest feeling in man or a masterpiece of art. Yet those who wrote the records cannot describe and express the unspeakable power and beauty contained in these 5 syllables.

As Mahatapasvi Shi Kumar Swami writes in Shine LINGE - Although there are many mantras, the Puranas proclaim, none are like this one. All the records described her. All the Vedas, Shastras and Upanishads are contained in it.  NAMAH SHIVAYA , the records say is Shiva himself in the form of sound - PURE, PERFECT & OVERWHELMING.

When Shiva destroys the world — when all things movable and immovable disappear and everything merges into its cause — Shiva “everything is placed” in Namah Shivaya. All elements and powers are contained in its syllables and form. At the end of 1 such round, when Shiva wants to restore the world, he authorizes Lord Brahma to create 3 worlds by giving them Panchaksara or 5 syllabic mantra Namah Svivaya.

To help him in his task, Brahma created 10 sages and after performing a hundred years of penance, Shiva explained to them the full meaning of the mantra.  They then created the world  gods, asuras and human beings “in a magnificent way”.

THE MANTRA CREATED CREATION AND THROUGH THE MANTRA THE WORLD KNEW ITS CREATOR.

Namah Shivaya is Shiva’s gift to us, given so that we can know ourselves as Shiva again. This cosmic form is reflected in the meaning of the mantra.

NAMAH means "I bow"

SHIVA is "the one who is merciful, the Lord who became all"  When one who chants the mantra says, "I worship Shiva," he is worshiping the Consciousness that resides in him and in every created thing, movable and immovable, sensory and non-sensory. The mantra ends with the syllable aiya which means AOYAKAM - Unity of the individual soul with the supreme soul, unity of individual consciousness with the cosmic - which means yoga. Sometimes the mantra is given as OM NAMAH SHIVAYA - so it is given in SIDDHA YOGA.

The addition of OM as the source of all sounds, makes the mantra even greater, says the Purana, thus adding to perfection perfectly.  This mantra is Shiva’s gift not only to people of pure heart but to everyone and the Shiva Purana says that anyone can experience its power and strength.

LONG MEANING

O GOD, EVERYTHING IS YOURS, NOTHING IS MINE.

WE HAVE A COUNTRY. SEE, O GOD, ALL THE EARTH. NOTHING IS MINE THERE - EVERYTHING IS YOUR GOD.

MAM IS WATER. SEE, O GOD, ALL THE WATER. NOTHING IS MINE THERE - EVERYTHING IS YOUR GOD.

SHIM IS FIRE. SEE, O GOD, ALL THE FIRE. NOTHING IS MINE THERE - EVERYTHING IS YOUR GOD.

YOU HAVE AIR. SEE, O GOD, ALL THE AIR. NOTHING IS MINE THERE - EVERYTHING IS YOUR GOD.

OM GAM GANAPATAYE NAMAHA

a941845851cfb5e3b8a43d4ed7923ef2_edited.jpg

MEANING

I greet you Ganesha, who removes all obstacles ...

The name Ganeša is a combination of two words, GANA and Iša. Ghana means "all existing beings in name and form", and Isha means "master". Thus Ganesha is the master of all existing beings, ie all creation. He is prayed for affection because he removes obstacles at the beginning of every endeavor such as going on a trip, building a house, writing a book or even a letter. Ganesha is depicted as a short figure of a large belly with 4 arms and an elephant's head, with only one tusk. In his 3 hands he holds ankosh (ax), pash (lasso) and sometimes a shell. Sometimes his 4th hand is shown in a gesture of blessing, but more often he holds a lada (candy) in that hand. His little eyes glow like jewels. He rides on a rat or is followed by a rat. The rat was once a demon that Ganesha defeated and then accepted as a means of transportation. This demon symbolizes vanity and insolence. Therefore, Ganesha overcomes false vanity, pride, selfishness and insolence.

Ganesha's appearance may not be very attractive or acceptable to the rational mind, his animal head and short fat body attract children, but to those who think of themselves as adults, he looks very funny. Still, it is very foolish to allow Ganesha's ridiculous appearance to repel us, for he is the protector of men of correct judgment, who do not deceive or deceive the outward appearance. Those who cannot see the Divine in Ganesha and who are instead distracted by its large appearance, fall victim to the rational mind (left hemisphere of the brain), which is the greatest obstacle to spiritual development.  Accepting Ganesha as a divine force calms the rational mind and all its doubts which are our greatest enemy. By simply performing the mantra for Ganesha, through a sense of respect, the rational mind is restrained and brought under control. That is why Ganesha is worshiped as a great obstacle remover.

Faith creates a powerful force that makes the eternal flow of energy downward pass into an energy flow upward and that connects us to the higher centers that exist in our own body. Ganesha is steadfast and firm. He provides steadfastness, that is, steadfastness to those who meditate on him and invoke him at the beginning of all endeavors, whether secular or spiritual.

2 Tibetan mantras

VAJRA GURU MANTRA

vajra.png

This is one of the two most famous mantras in Tibet. We learned it from our Master Swami Urgaya.  Vajra Guru mantra OM AH HUM VAJRA GURU PADMA SIDDHI HUM Tibetans say:

Om Ah Hung Benza Guru Pema Siddhi Hung.

This is the mantra of Padmasambhava, the mantra of all Buddhas, all teachers and "realized beings" and is therefore powerful for peace, healing, transformation and protection in this violent, chaotic age. Recite the mantra calmly, with deep attention, and let the breath, mantra, and consciousness slowly become one. Or sing it with inspiration and calm down in the deep silence that sometimes follows.

I INVITE YOU, VAJRA GURU PADMASAMBHAVA, TO GIVE US ORDINARY AND SUPREME SIDDHIES WITH YOUR BLESSING.

MEANING

The research of its meaning is based on the explanations of Dudja Rinpoche and Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.

OM AH HUM

The syllables OM AH HUM have external, internal and  "Secret meaning". At each of these levels, however, OM means body, AH speech, and HUM mind. They represent the transforming blessings of the body, speech and mind of all Buddhas. External OM purifies all negative activities committed by the body, AH by speech, and HUM by the mind. By purifying your body, speech and mind, OM AH HUM bestows blessings on the body, speech and mind of the Buddha. OM is also the essence of form, AH of sound, and HUM of mind. Therefore by chanting the mantra you are also purifying the environment, as well as yourself and other beings in it. OM purifies all perceptions, AH purifies all sounds, and HUM the mind, its thoughts and feelings.

Inside OM cleans the barely perceptible subtle channels, AH wind, inner air and energy flow, and HUM the creative essence.

On a deeper level, OM AH HUM embodies the 3 kayas of the LOTOS Buddha family:  OM is Dharmakaya: Buddha Amitabha, Buddha of infinite light; AH is Sambhogakaya: Avalokiteshvara, Buddha of Compassion; and HUM is Nirmanakaya: Padmasambhava. This means, in the case of this mantra, that all three kayaas are embodied in the personality of Padmasambhava. At the innermost level, OM AH HUM brings the realization of 3 aspects of the nature of the mind: OM contributes to the realization of his inexhaustible Energy and Compassion, AH brings to the realization of his brilliant and radiant Nature, and HUM brings to the realization of his heavenly Being.

VAJRA GURU PADMA

VAJRA is compared to diamond, the hardest and most precious stone. Just as a diamond can cut everything, it is indestructible, just as unchangeable, the non-dualistic wisdom of the Buddha can never be hurt or destroyed by ignorance and can cut all delusions and obscurations. The qualities and activities of the body, speech and wise mind of the Buddha can benefit beings with the penetrating and unstoppable power of the diamond. Just like a diamond, VAJRA is flawless; its brilliant power comes from the realization of Dharmakaya’s nature of reality, the nature of Buddha Amitabha.

GURU means "important"; someone who is filled with all the wonderful qualities, who embodies wisdom, knowledge, compassion and a wealth of experience. Just as gold is the heaviest and most precious metal, so the incomprehensible and impeccable qualities of the guru-teacher are unsurpassed and the best in excellence. The guru corresponds to Sambhogakayi and Avalokiteshvari, the Buddha of compassion. Likewise, since Padmasambhava taught the path of tantra symbolized by vajra, and achieved sublime realization through the practice of tantra, he is known as the "Vajra Guru".

PADMA means lotus and signifies the Lotus family of Buddhas, especially their aspect of enlightened speech. The lotus family is the Buddha family to which human beings belong. As Padmasambhava is a direct emanation of Nirmankaya, Buddha Amitabha, who is the original Buddha of the Lotus family, is known as "Padma". His name Padmasambhava, "born of the lotus," is reflected in the story of his birth on a blossoming lotus. When the syllables VAJRA GURU PADMA come together, they also signify the essence and blessing of Seeing, Meditation and Activity.

VAJRA means the unchanging, diamond and indestructible Essence of truth, which we pray to be realized in our Vision. The GURU represents the splendor of nature and the noble qualities of enlightenment for which we pray perfection in meditation.

PADMA explains the Compassion we ask for in our activities.  By chanting the mantra, therefore, we receive the blessing of a wise mind, noble qualities and compassion of Padmashambava and all Buddhas.

SIDDHI HUM

SIDDHI means "real fulfillment", "achievement", "blessing" and "realization". There are two types of siddhis: ordinary and sublime. By receiving the blessings of an ordinary siddhi, all obstacles in our life as illness are removed, all our valid aspirations are fulfilled, well-being as well-being, progress and long life come, and all different living conditions lead us to spiritual practice and enlightenment. The blessing of the exalted siddhi brings enlightenment. The state of complete realization of Padmasambhava, which improves both us and all other sentient beings. Therefore, by reminding and praying for the body, speech, mind, qualities and activities of Padmasambhava, we will succeed in attaining both, ordinary and supreme siddhas.

SIDDHI HUM is said to draw us into all siddhis like a magnet that attracts iron shavings.

HUM represents the wise mind of the Buddha and is a dedicated catalyst for mantras. It is like proclaiming his power and truth: "Let it be!".

The essential meaning of the mantra is:

"I INVITE YOU, VAJRA GURU PADMASAMBHAVA, TO GIVE US ORDINARY AND EXALTED SIDDHIYES WITH YOUR BLESSINGS."

WELFARE

Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche interprets: it is said that the 12 syllables of OM AH HUM VAJRA GURU PADMA SIDDHI HUM convey the overall blessing of 12 types of Buddha teachings, which is the essence of 84,000 Dharma. Therefore, reciting the VAJRA GURU MANTRA 1 time is equally valuable for the blessing of reciting… or practicing the whole teaching of the Buddha. These 12 branches of learning are the antidote to liberation to the "Twelve Connections of Interdependent Origin" that keep us connected to samsara: ignorance, karmic shaping, analytical consciousness, name and form, senses, touch, feeling, desire, greed, existence, birth, age and death.

These 12 connections are the mechanisms of samsara by which samsara is kept alive. Reciting the 12 syllables of the VAJRA GURU MANTRA, the 12 bonds are purified, and you are able to remove and completely purify the karmic layers of defiled feelings, and thus get rid of samsara.

Although we are not able to see Padmasambhava in person, his wisdom mind revealed in the form of a mantra; these 12 syllables are the radiations of his mind of wisdom and carry his entire blessing. VAJRA GURU MANTRA is Padmasambhava in the form of sound. So when you invoke it by uttering 12 syllables, the blessing and merit you receive is enormous. In these difficult times there seems to be no Buddha or refuge that we could invoke and that are more powerful than Padmasambhava; no mantra is more appropriate than the VAJRA GURU MANTRA.

MANTRA OF COMPASSION
&
HEALING

OM MANI PADME HUM

How melodic is the mysterious transcendental sound of Avalokiteshvarin. He is the original sound of the universe… He is the muffled murmur of sea breathing inside. Its enigmatic sound brings liberation and serenity to all sentient beings who in their pain call for help; and brings a sense of constant serenity to all those who strive for the endless peace of Nirvana.

WELFARE

The Om Mani Padme Hum mantra has many levels of symbolic meaning. The mantra is in Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language. It is believed to be associated with Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion. The teachings explain that each of the 6 syllables of the mantra OM MA NI PAD ME HUM - has a special and powerful effect in transformation on different levels of our being.

The six syllables purify the six poisons of negative emotions that are manifestations of ignorance and that encourage us to act negatively with our body, speech and mind, and thus create samsara and suffering.  Pride, jealousy, longing, ignorance, greed and anger are transformed through the mantra into their true nature, the wisdom of the six Buddha families revealed in the enlightened mind. Therefore, when we repeat OM MANI PADME HIUM, the six negative feelings that cause the six worlds of samsara are purified.  In this way, reciting the six syllables prevents rebirth in each of the six kingdoms and disperses the suffering inherent in each kingdom. At the same time, OM MANI PADME HUM completely purifies the ego, skandhe, and perfects the six kinds of transcendental activities of the heart of the enlightened mind, the parampita; nobility, harmonious conduct, patience, enthusiasm, concentration and insight.  It is also said that OM MANI PADME HUM provides strong protection against all kinds of negative influences and various diseases.

Often HRIH, the "seed style" of Avalokiteshvara, is added to the mantra and forms OM MANI PADME HUM HRIH. The essence of the compassion of all buddhas, hrih is the catalyst that activates the compassion of the buddhas to transform our negative feelings into their wisdom nature.

Basic translation of the mantra:

OM - the sound of the divine, the sacred sound, the primordial vibration of the universe

MANI - a gem

PADME - lotus

HUM - the spirit of enlightenment, unity

Buddhist Monk Meditating

DALAJ LAMA EXPLANES: OM - CONSISTS OF THREE LETTERS: AUM WHICH SYMBOLIZES THE THREE STATES OF CONSCIOUSNESS, AND BODY, SPEECH AND MIND. THE WAY IS REPRESENTED BY THE SYLLABUS MANI WHICH MEANS THE JEWEL - SYMBOLIZES THE METHOD - ALTRUISTIC INTENTION TO ENLIGHTENMENT, FULL OF LOVE AND COMPASSION. PADME MEANS LOTUS AND SYMBOLIZES WISDOM. THE PATH TO ENLIGHTENMENT IS THEREFORE THE UNSEPARABLE UNITY OF THE METHOD AND WISDOM SYMBOLIZED BY THE SYLLABUS HUM, WHICH MEANS "INSEPARABLE". HUM IS THE ROOT SYSTEM OF BUDDHA AKSHOBYA WHICH MEANS “THE ONE WHO DOES NOT MOVE FROM A PLACE, WHO NOTHING CAN DISTURB.

Explanation from the book "Tibetan Book of Living and Dying"

Mantra of Compassion, OM MANI PADME HUM, Tibetans pronounce Om Mani Peme Hung. It embodies the compassion and blessing of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and especially invokes the blessing of Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion. Avalokiteshvara is the reading of the Buddha in Samboghagakay and his mantra is considered to be the essence of the Buddha’s compassion for all beings. Just like Padmashambava  the most important teacher for the Tibetan people, Avalokiteshvara is the most important Buddha  and the karmic deity of Tibet.  There is a famous saying about  the embodiment of the Buddha of compassion in the Tibetan consciousness that any child who can utter the word “mama” can also chant the mantra OM MANI PADME HUM.

Mythology

Once upon a time, it is said, a thousand princes vowed to become Buddhas. We know one of them as Gautama Siddharthu; Avalokiteshvara, however, swore that he would not attain enlightenment until all others  1000 princes do not become Buddhas.  In his infinite compassion, he also made a vow to free all sentient beings from the various realms of samsara from suffering. He prayed in front of the Buddha in ten directions: "May I help all beings, and if I ever get tired of this great work, may my body be shattered into a thousand pieces."

First, the story fell into the realm of hell, climbing gradually through the world of the hungry  spirits towards the kingdom of the gods. From there he looked down and saw, terrified, that in spite of the innumerable beings in hell, innumerable of them were coming. This saddened him terribly; for a moment he almost lost faith in that noble vow he had made and his body disintegrated into 1000 pieces. In his despair, he called on all the Buddhas for help. They came to help him from all directions of the universe, as one text says, like a gentle blizzard of snowflakes. With their immense power the buddhas made it whole again and since then Avalokiteshvara has eleven heads and 1000 hands and on the palm of each hand is one eye which signifies that the unity of wisdom and richness of experience are the characteristics of true compassion. In this form he was even more radiant and able to help all beings more than before, and his compassion grew stronger as he repeated the oath over and over before the Buddhas, "Let me not attain final Buddhahood before all sentient beings reach enlightenment." two tears fell from his eyes out of sorrow at the suffering of samsara: with the blessing of the Buddha they were transformed into two Taras. One is Tara, in her green form, the active force of compassion, and the other is Tara, in her white form, the maternal aspect of compassion. The name Tara means "the one who liberates", the one who transports us across the ocean of samsara. In the Mahayana sutras it is said that Avalokiteshvara gave his mantra to the Buddha himself, and the Buddha in turn gave him a special and noble task of helping all the beings of the universe to move towards Buddhahood. At that moment, all the gods showered them with a rain of flowers, the earth shook, and the air echoed with sound

OM MANI PADME HUM HRIH.

Song lyrics:

Avalokiteshvara is like the moon

Whose cold light extinguishes the blazing fires of samsara

A lotus of compassion blooms in its rays at night

It opens its petals wide.
